What steps do you take to prevent any issues while digging underground?
The first step on any project is to call dig safe and have them mark out any underground utilities in the proposed work area. This at least gives the excavation contractor an idea of potential buried hazards. When it’s time to start digging it is important to have an employee working with the operator to help spot any unmarked utilities underground. More often than not, various pipes and lines get buried in the native soils with no way of knowing they are there. An experienced operator knows digging techniques to mitigate the risks of hitting an underground pipe or line but it is never a sure thing if what is underground wasn’t installed in sand, stone, or with the proper marking tape above it.
